The ALMAJIRI (poem)

Today I took a voyage
Today I left my comfort zone, crossed the boundaries of tribal pride, broke the walls of ethnicity to see that boy, that young Almajiri whose dreams he has swallowed
Who lies on the throne of anything for the boys

He said he's raised in the houses of no roofs
In the kitchen of no food
In the palour of no Tele
But only this plate of arm seeking and the lingering thirst to stand with these fellow

He knows not the harmattan for he swims naked in its haze
His bud is gone, the bud to the sweet and sour
He knows not the room, the open room to the white man's wisdom
The trendy and feudal he knows not
If only this day and each day is spent on one meal he grins like the Cheshire cat
Abba Father, do I deserve more than these?
